Gems Boa
Gems BoaGems Boa
We found this unusual Boa amongst a small litter of babies in a local reptile shop, She totally stood out from her littermates that were regular looking boas. Her dorsal saddles are large, square and evenly spaced with a single light dot in the centre of each, She also has a clean pastel like appearance. Her flanks are lightly marked as an adult but were completely absent as a juvenile and have a nice platinum look that continues to the clear unmarked underside. We will write more about this possible new morph as we find out more about her genetics.

The Story So Far.

In 2005 We bred the female Gems Boa to an Albino and produced a litter of thirteen babies of which around half showed some pattern influence of their mother but none of them were as unique as her. However, four of these babies had clear undersides of which one was a male.

Gems Arabesque Boa
In 2006 saw us using an Arabesque Boa X Gems Boa looking for some kind of cross and from this small litter of just a few babies we produced what we were looking for, a male Arabesque Boa with a clear underside and a light pastel appearance. This proved that the Gems Boa is carrying some form of co-dominant gene but not quite the full package...More work to be done!...

In 2007, the clear bellied male from the 2005 litter was bred back to the Gems Boa and after a five month wait, 24 babies arrived of which half were showing a slight influence but all had clear undersides, but the other half....WOW! all Gems Boas identical to their mother of which some are even more outstandig than her with their  beautiful clear platinum flanks and undersides. We now have a nice group of Gems Boas to work with of which we have already incorperated the Albino and Arabesque traits into the project. One thing for sure is that the genetics of this morph are not straight forward, as there seems to be something co-dominant going on and something definately recessive. We believe there could be something truly spectacular hiding within the genes of this morph which we hope to unlock when we breed Gems Boa X Gems Boa, hopefully within a couple of years.
